Description

BareBones Productions is seeking to hire one Usher/Audience Coordinator for the 2023 Halloween Extravaganza who will work individually and collaboratively with Barebones Directors/Facilitators, Barebones staff, community volunteers, and the production team through the months of September and October 2023. The Usher/Audience Coordinator is responsible for collaborating and communicating with the production, performance, and technical crews and developing processes to coordinate volunteer ushers and ensure the safety and well being of the audience leading up to and during 4 public performance/rituals related to grief, death, ancestors, loss, and remembering to be performed October 27, 28, 29 and 31. Rain date will be October 30th if any performance is canceled due to weather. Performances will be on the Midtown Greenway between 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue.

Qualifications or Requirements

  • Experience and excellent skills in the area of customer service
  • Experience collaborating with a wide variety of community members, including folks of various ages, races, cultures, genders, family structures, abilities, spiritual beliefs, and who speak a variety of languages
  • Willingness to learn, self-reflect, and grow in the areas of equity, inclusion, and anti-bias
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and strong time management skills
  • High standard of organizational and communication skills
  • Strong technology skills, including knowledge and experience creating, managing and sharing Google Docs and using google drive for community intercommunication
  • Ability to work under pressure, and a sharp eye for detail
  • Problem-solving skills, ability to think on one’s feet
  • Negotiation skills, confidence and decision-making abilities

Responsibilities Include

  • Oversee the safety and well-being of audience members before, during, and after the show. 
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteer ushers
  • Collaborate and communicate with Security Staff, Stage Manager, Site Manager, Merch tent coordinator, Medical volunteers, and Co-directors to advocate for the best interests of audience members
  • Oversee the seating process developed by the Barebones Board and and ensure that all usher volunteers assisting with seating are well trained to interpret seating schemes
  • Collaborate to coordinate accessibility services, including: developing seating areas for audience members with a variety of disabilities, creating signage for all accessibility seating and services, train volunteers to appropriately communicate with and provide service to audience members with disabilities, and collaborate with ASL interpreter and Audio Description staff (ASL and Audio available during one performance)
  • Collaborate with staff to provide volunteer services for bike parking area
  • Answer questions, listen to audience compliments and concerns, and make audience members feel welcome
  • Ensure that all audience areas, including portable biffies, are clean and ready for use prior to performances
  • Assist with “closing” the house after performances 
  • Work/attend all required rehearsals and meetings as scheduled by directors/facilitators (dates TBD)
  • Work/attend all performances on October 27, 28, 29 and 31. Rain date will be October 30th if any performance is canceled due to weather.
  • Participate in 4 educational workshops provided to the community by Barebones
  • Participate in digital communication (email, text, phone)  in a timely manner
  • Prioritize physical and emotional safety of every participant, including Covid precautions
  • Participate in final wrap-up survey
  • As this is a temporary, independent contractor position, candidates are required to have their own access to materials and technologies necessary for the job
