Call for Stilt Coordinator

Description

BareBones Productions is seeking to hire a Stilt Coordinator for the 2024 Halloween Extravaganza who will work individually and collaboratively with BareBones Co-Directors, artistic/production staff, and community members from end of August, through September and October, and into the beginning of November 2024. The Stilt Coordinator will work with these communities to create a public performance/ritual related to grief, death, ancestors, loss, and remembering, to be performed over 4 nights. Performances will be located in Powderhorn Park at 3400 15th Avenue South.

Qualifications or Requirements

  • Strong stilting performance skills, preferably in collaboration with a variety of artists, in particular, puppetry artists
  • Ability to source materials for stilt building and stilt costuming and ability to build stilts
  • Experience teaching, collaborating with, managing, and supporting a wide variety of community members, including folks of various ages, races, cultures, genders, family structures, abilities, spiritual beliefs, and who speak a variety of languages
  • Willingness to learn, self-reflect, and grow in the areas of equity, inclusion, and anti-bias
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility

Must Work/Attend

  • BareBones Buildup 2024 (paid orientation). Collaborate with the 2024 Team to create protocols to address interpersonal dynamics, safety, workload fairness, communication, & organization
  • Artistic staff Storyboarding and Community Storyboarding
  • Build events, rehearsals, and additional meetings as scheduled by the Co-Directors, Artistic Team, and Production Team, per protocols developed at BareBones Buildup 2024
  • Four performances, to be held on October 31, November 1, 2, and 3, 2024. The rain date will be November 4, if a performance is canceled due to the weather
  • Four educational workshops provided to the community by BareBones Board

Responsibilities Include

  • Collaborate with Directors/Facilitators, Barebones staff/artists, and volunteers/community to create a 45-60 minute performance including puppetry, music, fire, and stilting
  • Support participating community members to grow as stilt performers and expand their stilting confidence and skills
  • Lead stilt section rehearsals during main rehearsals
  • Prioritize the physical and emotional safety of every participant
  • Participate in digital communication (email, text, phone) promptly
  • Participate in a variety of clean-up activities and final wrap-up survey after November 4, 2024
  • As this is a temporary, independent contractor position, candidates are required to have access to materials and technologies necessary for the job

Compensation

  • $500.00
  • BareBones Buildup attendance $50
  • Snacks or Meals at most meetings, builds, rehearsals
  • Access to request small funds for basic needs if needed to fully participate in BareBones duties

The BareBones Board/Hiring Committee wishes that we could pay more. We recognize compensation is more like symbolic appreciation rather than a livable wage. This show is only possible with many people's in-kind donations (love hours).
