The artist duo in partnership with Teatro del Pueblo had created standing altars of rubbled material and poetry in response to the Minneapolis uprisings.
Kieran and Johanna had repurposed rubble from the burnt down buildings along Lake Street to create the standing altars. Other salvaged or found materials, which were coated in resin, were then layered on to the tiers. Plant life bloomed out of the crevices. Johanna’s words in response to the South Minneapolis uprisings were woven into the altars.

In the recent OFFERINGS: BareBones Live Pop-ups: the altars were built in and on view at Robert’s Annex on Lake Street from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1, 2020..
About the Artists
Johanna Keller Flores is a Peruana-American writer and theatre artist who is out here trying to tell stories close to her heart for her queer brown familia. She’s from St. Paul with her second home in Chimbote. She has had the sincerest pleasure of creating in the Twin Cities the last couple years with Pangea World Theatre, Lightning Rod, 20% Theatre, Good Night at the Southern, and Gadfly Theatre. Kieran Myles-Andrés Tverbakk is an artist from Houston TX, currently living and working on Dakhóta land (Minneapolis-St. Paul). In their work, they highlight the dualistic nature of queer trans visibility and explore self-empowerment through the reclamation of their family’s native languages and cultural practices. Using their family’s archives, they reveal dichotomies within their experience as a first-generation Mexican-Norwegian-American who is also non-binary transgender. Tverbakk has exhibited nationally in galleries including Clamp Light (San Antonio TX), Sure Space (Minneapolis MN), New Women Space (Brooklyn NY), NDSU’s Memorial Union Gallery (Fargo ND), Waiting Room (St. Paul MN), and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Museum (Philadelphia PA).
