Annual Community Retreat
Description
Retreat for staff and volunteers
Barebones is what WE make it. Help make it what you want it to be! Come for all or part of the day. RSVP at [email protected] (helpful for food planning, but not required for attendance).
Location
Due to the unavailability of the Anderson Center this year, the Retreat is in a new spot—Midtown Global Market (Chicago Lofts Rooftop Party Room). Door to the party room elevator is in the lobby between Allina and the Global Market (near stairs to DMV). Look for green, “The Chicago” sign. Someone will be there to greet you or there will be a sign with a phone number to call.
Check out the space—it even has an outdoor patio 🥰. This is gonna be a fun one, y’all!

Workshops
Chosen Family (lead by Kallie Melvin)
Family is oftentimes a beautiful and complicated facet of life. Who are the people we choose to have in our life? Why is that relationship unique and special? In this workshop we will explore chosen family, and make a spoon puppet of a chosen family member. Please feel free to bring small items you would like to incorporate into your puppet, or any supplies you would like to bring and share with the group for building. This workshop is open to all ages and abilities.
Pagan Spirituality and Samhain traditions (lead by Paul Eaves)
Samhain is a pagan holiday that honors the last harvest and the coming winter as well as venerates the relationships between the living and the dead. In this workshop we will explore Samhain traditions and connections with our own ancestors. We will ask questions such as the following: who are our ancestors; how do we relate with them; how may they inform our day to day lives; how may they influence the work of Bare Bones?
We will work with trance, tarot, some movement, and conversation to explore these questions and more. Please bring a journal and something to write with. This workshop is open to anyone with a curious and inquiring spirit.
