Description
BareBones Productions is seeking to hire several Teaching Artists and Teaching Artist Interns for the 2024 Halloween Extravaganza who will work individually and collaboratively with BareBones Co-Directors, artistic/production staff, and community members from end of August, through September and October, and into the beginning of November 2024. Teaching Artists & Interns will work with these communities to create a public performance/ritual related to grief, death, ancestors, loss, and remembering, to be performed over 4 nights. Performances will be located in Powderhorn Park at 3400 15th Avenue South.
Qualifications or Requirements
- Experience teaching, guiding, supporting, and managing a wide variety of community members, including folks of various ages, races, cultures, genders, family structures, abilities, spiritual beliefs, and who speak a variety of languages
- Strong puppetry, theater, performance, and/or visual art skills
- Experience creating large-scale outdoor visual and performance art pieces
- Willingness to learn, self-reflect, and grow in the areas of equity, inclusion, and anti-bias
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
- Adaptability and flexibility
- Applicants for Teaching Artist Intern positions may have less experience in the above skills
Must Work/Attend
- BareBones Buildup 2024 (paid orientation). Collaboration with the 2024 Team to create protocols to address interpersonal dynamics, safety, workload fairness, communication, and organization
- Artistic staff Storyboarding, Community Storyboarding, Build Site move, and Build Kick-Off
- Build events, rehearsals, and additional meetings as scheduled by the Co-Directors, Artistic Team, and Production Team, per protocols developed at BareBones Buildup 2024
- Four performances to be held on October 31, November 1, 2, and 3, 2024. Rain date will be November 4, if a performance is canceled due to weather
- Four educational workshops provided to the community by BareBones Board

Responsibilities Include
- Teach, guide, and support a wide range of community members to grow as puppet artists/builders/performers and expand their artistic confidence and skill sets
- Collaborate with Directors/Facilitators, BareBones staff/artists, and volunteers/community to create a 45-60 minute performance including puppetry, music, fire, and stilting
- Prioritize the physical and emotional safety of every participant
- Participate in digital communication (email, text, phone) promptly
- Participate in a variety of clean-up activities and final wrap-up survey after November 4, 2024
- As this is a temporary, independent contractor position, candidates are required to have access to materials and technologies necessary for the job

Compensation
- Teaching Artist $2000.00, Interns $250.00
- BareBones Buildup attendance $100
- Snacks or Meals at most meetings, builds, rehearsals
- Access to request small funds for basic needs if needed to fully participate in BareBones duties
