Call for Music Director

Description

This is a call for a Music Director to lead what we are calling, An Ancestor’s Concert for Bare Bones Extravaganza 2021. Looking for a Music Director who’s willing to work in collaboration with the Performance Director (Xochi de la Luna) and the Bare Bones community at large to create a musical and performance score in 4 parts. These 4 parts will be a musical trajectory that mirrors the performances, and allows for different stories in an overarching story to be told. While keeping in mind that we should have at least 1 big moment where we are able to call to our ancestors like in Bare Bones productions at Hidden Falls.

Qualifications or Requirements

  • Having experience in the BB Orchestra is a huge plus, and applicants with this qualification will be put at the top of the list.
  • Has served in an musical improv group
  • Has conducted a musical group in the past
  • Able to lead and plan scheduling for an ensemble
  • Able to weave improvised and structured music to allow the piece to breathe
  • Understands that this is a collaboration between Music Director, Performance Director, and Bare Bones Community
  • Strong communication skills Strong proficiency in Google Drive
    Strong organizational skills
  • Access to the internet and the technologies necessary to complete job
  • Understanding of BareBones Board functions preferred
  • Excellent time management

Responsibilities Include

  • Leading a musical ensemble through an hour of music on October 31st
  • Setting rehearsal schedule for the month
  • Produce 4 different musical moments that add up to 1 hour of music
  • Confer with Bare Bones Community and Performance Director to align performance with music
  • Able to work with Stage Manager to organize musicians day of show
  • Create original music/ soundscapes for the event in collaboration with the artists
  • Find and organize volunteer performers
  • Manage the live performance(s)
  • Work closely with the production team
  • Attend staff meetings (with COVID-19 precautions)
  • Be the main line of communication between musicians and the artistic/production staff
  • Facilitate meetings and rehearsals (remote)

This is a temporary, independent contractor position that requires candidates to have their own access to materials and technologies necessary for the job.
