Description
BareBones Productions is seeking to hire a Makeup Coordinator for the 2025 Halloween Extravaganza who will work individually and collaboratively with BareBones Producer(s), Co-Directors, artistic/production staff, and community members through August, September, October, and November 2025. The Makeup Coordinator will work with these communities to create a public performance/ritual related to grief, death, ancestors, loss, and remembering, to be performed over 4 nights. Performances will be located in Powderhorn Park at 3400 15th Avenue South.
Qualifications or Requirements
- Experience and excellent skills in the area of theatrical make-up
- High level of comfort with use and application of theatrical make-up in outdoor/makeshift environment
- Experience collaborating with a wide variety of community members, including folks of various ages, races, cultures, genders, family structures, abilities, spiritual beliefs, and who speak a variety of languages
- Willingness to learn, self-reflect, and grow in the areas of equity, inclusion, and anti-bias
- Adaptability, flexibility, and strong time management skills
- High standard of organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure, and a sharp eye for detail
- Problem-solving skills, ability to think on one’s feet
- Negotiation skills, confidence and decision-making abilities
Must Work/Attend
- Rehearsals, and additional meetings as scheduled by the Co-Directors, Production Team, per protocols developed at BareBones Buildup 2025
- Four performances, to be held on October 31, November 1, 2, and 3, 2025. The rain date will be November 4, if a performance is canceled due to the weather
- Four educational workshops provided to the community by BareBones Board

Responsibilities Include
- Purchase and source make-up as directed by Co-Producers
- Collaborate with Directors and Artistic staff to develop make-up protocols, preferences and examples for performers. Protocols will include explicit directions on applying make-up in a manner that is not appropriative or racist
- Explain make-up protocols to all performers applying make-up, and create visual reminder(s) to post in the make-up area during dress rehearsal and performances. Ensure protocols are followed by all performers who apply make-up
- Create make-up station (chairs, tables, mirrors etc.) to be set up and taken down during dress rehearsal and performances, and that can accommodate the needs of a variety of performers
- Set up, take down, and store these elements and the make-up in a timely manner the nights of the dress rehearsal and performances
- Participate in 4 educational workshops provided to the community by Barebones
- Prioritize the physical and emotional safety of every participant
- Participate in digital communication (email, text, phone) promptly
- Participate in a variety of clean-up activities and final wrap-up survey after November 4, 2025
- As this is a temporary, independent contractor position, candidates are required to have access to materials and technologies necessary for the job

Compensation
- $150
- Snacks or Meals at most meetings, builds, rehearsals
- Access to request small funds for basic needs if needed to fully participate in BareBones duties
The BareBones Board/Hiring Committee wishes that we could pay more. We recognize compensation is more like symbolic appreciation rather than a livable wage. This show would not be possible without many people's in-kind donations (love hours).
