Halloween Shows
Since 1993, BareBones Productions has presented The Annual Halloween Outdoor Puppet Extravaganza, a community-created spectacle pageant of larger-than-life puppetry, drama, stilting, dance, fire, song, and music. Each show is unique and follows a collaborative storyboard developed from thematic sources that help us embrace the seasonal winding of fall into winter and the inevitable element of death that is inherent in the cycle of life. Over the years, BareBones has drawn themes from folktales such as “Baba Yaga and her Fearsome Trials” (Russian) and “Thomas the Rhymer” (Celtic), general notions such as “Rot and Compost as Creative Forces” and “Time is the Fire in Which we all Burn,” ancient myths such as “Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld” (Summerian) and “Jason and the Argonauts” (Greek), and American short stories and novels such as “The Masque of the Red Death” (Edgar Allen Poe) and “Huckleberry Finn” (Mark Twain).
Dumpster Duels:
Dumpster Duels pits two or more local performance troupes against each other in a grueling puppet show-building contest. Each group is given a dumpster full of scavenged junk and just 48 hours to conceive and rehearse a show as well as build all puppets, costumes, sets and props. It’s “Iron Chef meets Junkyard Wars” and YOU decide who’s best. . . .
